Privacy

The short version: the only photos that leave your phone are the ones you pick to be drawn, and we don't keep them. No accounts, no ads, no tracking.

Who we are

Photo Anime is an iPhone app made by Chris DeWeese (Modern Programming). This policy covers the app and this website, photoanime.com. Questions go to support@chrislaunches.com.

The photos you pick

• When you pick photos to draw, the app sends only those photos, over HTTPS, to our server (a Cloudflare Worker).
• The server passes each photo to OpenAI's image API through OpenRouter, then sends the drawing back to your phone. We've set OpenRouter's provider data collection setting to “deny”.
• We don't store your photos. Our servers keep no copy, and our logs never contain photos, prompts, tokens or transactions.
• OpenAI may keep what it receives for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse, and it doesn't train its models on API data. See the OpenAI and OpenRouter privacy policies.

What stays on your phone

• The names and titles you type. Your phone draws them onto the cards, and they're never sent anywhere.
• Your drawings and the intros you make.

Your free intro

• Each iPhone gets one free intro. To keep track, we use Apple's DeviceCheck, which stores two bits for your device with Apple. We use them only for the free intro, and they don't identify you.
• To count the free intro's drawings, our server keeps a random ID that the app makes for that intro, with a count of its drawings, for 8 days.

Purchases

Apple handles payment, so we never see your payment details. When you subscribe, our server checks the signed transaction from Apple and keeps only an anonymous transaction ID with a count of drawings, for 8 days, to keep use fair.

Server logs

For each drawing, our server logs the template, the model, the quality setting, whether the photo was of a pet, how long it took, what it cost and whether it worked (with the kind of error, if there was one). Nothing else.

Usage counts

The app sends our own server anonymous daily counts of what happens in it, such as how many intros were made, which styles were picked and whether a drawing failed. They aren't linked to you: no name, no photo, no text you type, no advertising ID. Apple's DeviceCheck confirms once that the counts come from a real iPhone.

What we don't do

• No accounts.
• No ads.
• No tracking, and no third-party analytics.
• We don't sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising.

This website

• photoanime.com sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
• It's hosted on Vercel, which handles standard request data, such as your IP address, to deliver the pages (Vercel's privacy notice).
• Its App Store buttons carry a campaign tag, so Apple can show us how many people found the app from here, as a total. Apple's privacy policy covers the App Store.

Children

Photo Anime isn't for children under 13.

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
